Embracing the Fern

This week's column of Sound Garden on Design*Sponge has a wonderful description of the power of greenery in arrangements. So often I talk to brides who are timid to use any kind of greenery because they've seen it as old-fashioned and uninteresting, which can be the case. But... when done well, it can add a lot of texture, depth, and feeling to your flowers.

This gorgeous arrangement and lovely statement below is from Sarah Brysk Cohen of Blossom and Branch.

"I cannot say enough about the power of greenery to make an arrangement. Mixing shapes, hues and textures using greens is the single best way to make an arrangement look sophisticated and robust without spending a ton of money. This also requires a refined eye. Because upscale blooms like garden roses and peonies speak for themselves, it doesn’t require nearly as much skill to put them together in a way that shines. But the danger with seasonal foliage is that there is a fine line between the design looking like a big mess and it looking like you picked exactly the right elements and placed them in the perfect spots."

Smith & Sparks Wedding - 2.16.2013

I've been wanting to share a few photos from the adorable wedding of Jenny & David. I so enjoyed working with Jenny to design her flowers, and love how everything turned out! 

The couple met on an airplane, so they had their guest toss paper airplanes at them as they walked back down the aisle after the ceremony. Single Ladies: don't be afraid to travel! ;)
